Jim the Penman

Jim the Penman appeared in The Nelson Lee Library between March 1916 and March 1917 with a brief reappearance in  Nugget Weekly in 1921, and again in a six-part serial "The Return of Jim the Penman" in November 1924.  "Jim the Penman" was the nickname of two notable 19th Century forgers  - James Townsend Saward and Emanuel Ninga.  Brooks used it to describe his own creation, the talented criminal Douglas James Sutcliffe.  Like Saward, Sutcliffe was a lawyer who had turned to crime. He has the ability to reproduce immediately and perfectly any handwriting writing that he sees and is a master of disguise.
